Excerpt from Andrew Gold's interview with Mike Botts (Bread). Mike was his drummer and good friend. Andrew talks about how "Lonely Boy" developed - the recording of the song and so on during the tour with Linda Ronstadt. They would get standing ovations before it was even released! You know you have something good when that happens. The single reached number five on the UK Singles Chart and number 67 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1978.
